Black history month make it personal

Every February in America, we celebrate Black History month. We celebrate the talent and passions of people of the past. We acknowledge how much African Americans have overcome and how much further we have to go. As the events of 9/11 came about some people thought that race relations would change and for a while it did. Seemed like everyone was proud to be American. We were united in our sorrow and in hope. Hope. Such a word the encompasses all of the above. Patriotism,
celebration, and future as well as past are the pictures of all hope. This month may be Black History month, but I think it should be also the month of Hope. Remember where your roots started. Remember where your life began. Remember who your friends were. Remember what your parents, grandparents, and relatives that have come and gone did as a daily routine. My grandmother read the paper to my grandfather because he was limited in reading. She went farther in school than he did.
She did somethings which I found magical. She had a routine no matter where she was. She would pray and read the Bible. Then she would eat half a grapefruit, a cup of coffee, and a bowl of cereal. Now that she is gone I try my hardest to try to remember her voice. But more than that I try to carry on her legacy. What legacy you may ask. Faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen. (Hebrews 11:6) So no matter what situation you face remember that if you have the faith to see it in your mind it can be done. That is what carried African Americans from Slavery to Reconstruction, from Jim Crow to Civil Rights, from the morsels of a master's table to the abundance of the White House.
