The Southeastern United States was hit with deadly tornadoes. It is Spring here and we know where there is Spring weather with it's unstable low pressure systems and high wind speeds, there is the likelihood of tornado. But this storm was powerful and dangerous. Several states since Friday reported several dozen storms. Including the state of North Carolina on Saturday. There is nothing as eerie as hearing the sirens of the tornadoes a warning that one has touched down nearby. There were 3 major supercells in NC. The major storms hit Raleigh where it destroyed a mobile home park and Bertie county where ten people were killed.
I remember as a small child seeing the devastation of the 1984 storm. I was small but I do remember seeing a house that was built two stories high being reduced to nothing more than a foundation. I remember a turkey farm that existed near the woods and nothing was left of it. Nothing was ever found. The storm that hit this weekend hit a Lowe's Home Improvement store and destroyed it. Among the debris were bricks.
The death toll was up to 35 and thousands were without power.
