Japan Hit with Earthquake-Tsunami

The island country of Japan was struck with an earthquake that was measured at a 8.9 on the Richter's scale.  The earthquake struck the coast causing a domino effect in the form of a tsunami.  The tsunami sent waves over 20 ft high causing powerful aftershocks and the death toll up into the hundreds which could change after the flood waters recede and bodies are recovered.  500 people are missing and 1,000 injured.  Since the tsunami struck Sumatra, scientists have been collaborating to develop tsunami warning systems.  The warning systems in Japan are very  advanced starting with the source. The earthquake itself. 

In a press conference, President Obama addressed his concern for the citizens of Japan.  The US is sending assistance.  He also sends his strongly suggested that if other islands are asked to evacuate then evacuation is the only option. 

In Northern Japan there is a nuclear reactor that has exhibited high levels of radiation.  Evacuation orders from as far as six miles from the reactors were given.
