Power Food: B is for Broccoli
Written by Carly Greene
Well for those of you on the Adkins diet you are probably thinking what about me? I can't eat bananas they are rich in carbohydrates. That is very true. So I have decided to write about the amazing vegetable broccoli. Oh yes broccoli, as a child I remember this amazing tree-like vegetable smothered in cheese sauce. It seems that this was the only way adults could get kids to eat it. And it was the hardest vegetable next to zuchini to spell. As a matter of fact, I am wondering now if I spelled it right. Where did broccoli make its big debut and what benefits does eating it give us?
Broccoli was introduced to the world in ancient Italy and is found in the cabbage family.
Broccoli is versatile and can be eaten raw, steamed, or stirfried.
Nutrition: Broccoli is rich in fiber, vitamins A, C, D, and K.
Broccoli can be used to detoxify the body because of its bile enriching properties. It is rich in antoxidants which can reduce the risk of cancer, heart disease and reverse the damage to skin done by the sun. When steamed broccoli can reduce cholesterol in the blood.
