Power Food: Just in Thyme
Written by Carly Greene
Colds and flus have really packed a punch this year. We were given the H1N1 in our flu shots this year. But as with every virus there is a new strain, BIGGER and Badder than the one before. What might help us through the remainder of the Cold/Flu Season? Just a little bit of Thyme.
Thyme is an herb that has small, greenish-gray leaves. It smells absolutely wonderful. And in the kitchen thyme is a must. I love to use it on my chicken dishes with a little rosemary.
Thyme is used as an antiseptic. It's antiseptic properties make it an excellent mouthwash. When mixed with warm water it can be used to soothe sore throat and alleviate coughs.
Thyme is a good source of Vitamin K, Iron, and Manganese.
Thyme can be added to pasta, soup, and rice dishes. Thyme can be used to marinate meat. It has even been used as a tea.
