The 83rd Oscars
Written by Carly Greene
On February 27th the 83rd Annual Oscars was televised. This year was a good harvest from a crop of excellent movies. It was a night of true winners.
This year The Best Picture winner was The King's Speech chronicling the period of time that King George VI need a speech therapist due to his stuttering. This movie starred Colin Firth who received the Best Actor award for his portrayal. The film also took Best Director: Tim Hooper and Best Writing: David Seidler.
Best Actress award was taken home by Natalie Portman for her role as a ballet dancer who wins the role of a lifetime on to slowly descend into madness.
Best Supporting Actor and Supporting Actress went to the movie The Fighter. This movie is also based on a true story and following the training of "Irish" Micky Ward as he made it to professional boxing with the help of his brother.
In the World of Animation the winner was Toy Story 3. That's right Buzz and Woody rode off with Best Animated Feature and Best Song "We Belong Together" by Randy Newman. The Lost Thing won the award for Best Animated Short Film.
Other winning films include Alice in Wonderland for Best Costume Design Colleen Atwood and Best Art Direction Robert Stromberg and Karen O'Hara. I for one loved the designs and I love what fashion magic comes to the surface when Colleen Atwood and Tim Burton come together.
Inception the wild roller coaster ride in your mind starring Leo DiCaprio received Best Visual Effects (no surprise here), Best Sound and Mix, and Best Cinematography.
Social Network the film about Facebook's rise in the world of technology and in the homes of millions received Best Film Editing and Best Music.
Other films: Best Documentary: Inside Job (Charles Ferguson and Audrey Marrs) This documentary follows actions behind the fall of the market.
Best Short movie: God of Love Luke Matheny plays a man who is unlucky at love until he gets a gift of love charmed darts. (Cupid's creation)
Best Makeup: Wolfman (Rick Baker and Dave Elsey) I am not surprised at this either. I still get shivers from seeing American Werewolf in London. That scene with the bone popping, skin stretching, and hair growing still makes me rethink going out on a full moon.
Well that is the Oscars in a nutshell. Watch movies in 2011 and stay tuned to the 84th Annual Oscars in February 2012.
